New Community Energy Saving competition announced by DECC

DECC has published details of a new competition for community groups and other eligible organisations across England. Groups are invited to apply for the funding to “develop innovative energy-saving ideas that could help slash energy bills”.

Local Authorities are not eligible to apply by themselves for this funding but may apply in partnership with an eligible organisation.

The total fund available is £100,000 and individual projects may bid for up to £20,000 each.

The funding was announced on 26 January, but there is a very short timescale for applying and for completing projects. The closing date is 5pm on 10 February 2015, with the winners due to be announced shortly afterwards. Successful applicants must deliver their idea by the end of March 2015.

The application form and guidance notes are available on DECC’s website.

  1. Launched 26th Jan. Closing date just two weeks later? Schemes to be delivered just 6 weeks after that and before the end of the financial year?

Am I alone in wondering if there is a hidden agenda here? Call me cynical but it has all the hallmarks of someone panicking in order to get their budget spent?
